The Sydney Opera House turns blue for Jeans for Genes Day
The Sydney Opera House led the way in getting the nation dressed for Jeans for Genes Day this year by wearing a special one-off shade of blue for the eve of Jeans for Genes Day.
The aim was to remind all Australians to wear their jeans the next day (Friday August 7) as a sign of support for research into genetic childhood diseases.

World's largest Gathering of People in jeans - Federation Square Melbourne
As part of the national celebrations for Jeans for Genes Day 2009, Friday August 7, Melbournians of all ages were asked to wear their jeans and take part in the “World’s Largest Gathering of People in Jeans for Genes Day” at Federation Square.
The event was hosted by Channel 7’s Mia Greves and featured a celebrity fashion parade of fabulous denim creations made by local designers and Jeans For Genes groovy gear to raise money for Jeans for Genes Day. AFL footballers, Neighbours stars and many more put on their jeans in support of a great cause. As the crowd swelled everyone in jeans and blue poncho’s rallied together to form a gigantic pair of ‘human jeans’ to raise awareness of children with genetic disorders and promote the work of Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI).

Teams for Genes - Jeans for Genes City 2 Surf Team
Our dedicated researchers and staff at the Children’s Medical Research Institute hung up their lab coats for a day to run in the City to Surf in support of their cause.
You may be wondering why one of our researcher’s is wearing a denim nappy and dummy...
Well, Hamish Campbell, took up the daring challenge to run the City to Surf in not much more than a denim nappy, if he could raise $1,500 for the Children’s Medical Research Institute. The support for this dare was outstanding, raising over $1,700 for research into genetic conditions. What a great effort!
The rest of the less 'daring' Jeans for Genes team included, Charlotte Smith, Aimee Novelle, Lia Moshkanbaryans,Trish Hart, Amy Au, Nancy Sue, Afra Engelman, Mark Graham, Zeenia Kaul, Claire Deakin, Sophia Liao, Sanket Joshi, Sharon Cunningham, Allison Dane and Rob Novotny
