In a first for the family business, Dapto's Love's Swim School's annual Safety Week coincided with Jeans for Genes Day.
School owner Kylie Love's two-year-old niece Jaida inspired her to support Jeans for Genes and is hoping that parents' gold coin donations will help fund crucial research into genetic childhood diseases.
Jaida has ataxic cerebral palsy, atonic epilepsy, and another underlying genetic condition that is yet to be diagnosed.
"It's a very complex case," Jaida's mother Nikki Love said. "She's almost like a riddle to them," Nikki said.
That's where Jeans for Genes day comes in.
Around 500 children are expected to take part in Love Swim School's Safety Week, which aims to instill and reinforce crucial survival skills.
The kids will have to jump in the pool fully clothed and, this year Kylie is encouraging participants to 'ditch the trackies and wear jeans instead'.
Although the money raised isn't likely to affect Jaida and her life, the Love family is hoping that the research will help other families down the track.
"Maybe if in ten years time there's a similar case to Jaida, they can help or even prevent it", Nikki said.
